Dear Class of 2016,
As promised there is a new History website for A-level up and running to support those of you who are choosing history at A-level. It’s specifically geared towards the courses we’re doing at Tabor, BUT you might find some of the question/essay-writing advice useful even if you are studying history elsewhere. It is in its very early stages but it will give you an idea about how well we intend to look after our history students at Tabor 🙂
Please go take a look and if it’s something you want to keep an eye on then sign up!
I hope you’ve had a great summer break and are excited about getting your results tomorrow! If any of you are feeling worried or nervous – STOP IT! Contrary to popular belief what you get tomorrow does not decide your entire future. It shows what you were capable of after two years of studying a handful of subjects, half of which you didn’t even choose or necessarily like, when you were 15 and 16 years old – seriously, I cannot tell you how much perspective you’ll get on it in as little as a couple of weeks.
It should be a time to celebrate anything you have achieved, there will always be something on that piece of paper to be proud of. For some people this can be as simple as completing high school and attending all the exams, for others it might be an unexpectedly decent grade in a subject you loathed for two years (if any of you are now muttering, “yeah, history” at this, I will find out you know :):) ). If you do well, reflect on why that was. Did you work hard, did you attend revision, did you ask for help when you needed it? If this is all true then you are more then ready to face your next lot of academic challenges. If you didn’t do as well as you’d hoped, allow yourself 5 minutes of moping and feeling rubbish, then dig deep and decide that in 10 days time when you start a new course things WILL be different, YOU will be different. You will be older and wiser and ready to give a bit more to the next thing that you choose to do. And remember that you get to completely choose this time so sign up for something that you know will bring something good to your life. Go where you feel happy, comfortable and confident and where you know you will get all the help, support, motivation and encouragement you need. I will be in school tomorrow so I hope to see some of you then, if you don’t cross my path then GOOD LUCK with everything you do.
As always, please share this with anyone you think will benefit from it 🙂
